Project Description
Development started on the Perinatal Alert and Decision support Application (PANDA) research proposal in 2015 and will be submitted for consideration as an SFI Spokes Project in the INFANT centre in March 2016.
The ultimate goal of PANDA is develop a universal validated electronic early warning scorecard (EWS) which is bespoke for obstetric physiology and disease, and validated for same. This new EWS will be coded into a multi-tiered computer based application developed in Microsoft 10 operating system which will allow it to be used in identical fashion by both Tablet PC users (patient point of care) and traditional desktops users (off line analysis), linking to a core base of knowledge hosted on a private cloud. The proposed system will help to facilitate the development of a context rich decision support system to assist healthcare staff in their decision making process.
This ambition is a universally important one as there is at present no fully validated electronic EWS in the area of obstetrics. The societal impact is enhanced decision-making processes for clinicians leading to improved healthcare and better patient outcomes. The technology vacuum into which PANDA will deliver thus presents an array of commercial opportunities for our industry partner Microsoft, and potentially additional industry partners as the technology platform evolves.
